5 Tips To Get Rid Of Bad Breath

Good oral hygiene habits are the cornerstone of a healthy smile. Following a healthy dental routine at home is essential for preventing bad breath. Regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash can help prevent bad breath.

Brush your teeth

Brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste to remove food particles on and between your teeth. This helps to prevent plaque buildup. Plaque is the cause of bad breath.

After brushing your teeth, floss to remove any remaining food particles in between each tooth. This ensures that you’re eliminating as many odors as possible so you can have fresh breath throughout the day.

Don’t forget to scrape your tongue with your toothbrush or a tongue scraper. This removes bacteria and dead cells from the surface of your tongue that can contribute to bad odors.

Your dentist may recommend using a specialty tongue scraper to clean the surface of your tongue more effectively. If this doesn’t work for you, your dentist can prescribe a medication that can help to reduce odor-causing bacteria in your mouth.

Floss at least once a day

If you don’t floss regularly, food particles can stay trapped between teeth and under your gums. Over time, this buildup can harden into plaque and lead to cavities and gum disease. Daily flossing is the best way to remove these harmful deposits from your smile. A proper oral hygiene routine includes brushing twice a day and daily flossing. We recommend using ADA-accepted products for optimal care. These include a soft-bristled brush and toothpaste that contains fluoride.

Visit your dentist regularly

In addition to at-home care, it’s important to visit the dentist for regular cleanings and exams. These visits allow us to properly clean and remove excess plaque from your teeth. During these appointments, we can also identify and treat any signs of decay or disease before they worsen. With a balanced diet and proper oral care at home, you can enjoy a healthy smile for years to come.

Use a mouthwash

Cleaning your mouth with mouthwash will not cure bad breath. But mouthwash only helps to temporarily mask bad odors caused by bacteria. However, mouthwash is not a cure for bad breath but rather a temporary solution. Good oral hygiene is important because the bacteria that cause bad breath live on the teeth and the gums, and by improving your home care habits, you can limit their growth. This can reduce odor-causing bacteria and help prevent the recurrence of bad breath.

Brush your tongue

Bacteria on your tongue can worsen bad breath. That’s because your tongue is up against the back of your throat, and bacteria from your mouth can get trapped there. So when you breathe out, you release the bacteria into the front of your breath. Reminding yourself to brush your tongue each morning is a great way to reduce bad breath.

You can easily get a tongue scraper at a drugstore and use it every morning after you brush your teeth. You can also buy a tongue scraper through your favorite online retailer. Just make sure your scraper has soft edges that won’t irritate your tongue.
