Oral cancer, periodontal disease, tooth decay and other oral health conditions can cause discomfort as well as impact your quality of life. Left undiagnosed or untreated, these problems can get worse and require increasingly invasive treatment techniques.

To help prevent these serious problems the American Dental Association advises everyone to practice a consistent daily oral hygiene routine. This starts with making sure to brush your teeth twice each day and floss at least once each day. You should also use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth. Ideally, you should take you around two to three minutes to thoroughly your teeth.

When flossing, you need to make sure to clean between each of your teeth as well as the gumline. It’s also important to thoroughly flossing behind each of your molars. If you are having a hard time working floss between your teeth, you might want to try using waxed dental floss. This might help the strand to slip into place without damaging your gums.

When shopping for oral care products you should always look the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. The small logo indicates that the ADA has tested the product for safe and effective use. The ADA also maintains an active index on their website of all approved products.

Having a routine dental checkup at Next Level Dental is also critical for maintaining good oral health. The appointment involves cleaning your teeth and our dentist, Dr. Coley Ramsey evaluating the general health of your mouth.

If you live in the Smyrna, Tennessee, area and you have an oral health concern, you should call 615-459-6354 to schedule a dental checkup.
