Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays

Digital radiography (x-rays) is the most recent technique for taking dental x-rays. This method uses an electronic sensor to record and save digital images on a computer. On the computer screen, this image can be instantaneously examined and expanded.

Dental x-rays are an important diagnostic tool that provides important information during a dental exam. At Next Level Dental, P.C., we use digital X-rays to detect hidden problems safely and accurately, as well as to conduct a thorough comprehensive diagnosis.

When Should You Get Dental X-Rays?

Dental X-rays are an important part of a comprehensive oral hygiene routine. Depending on your age and risk of tooth decay, you should have dental X-rays taken as recommended by our dentist. If you do not follow our dentist's advice, you may miss an important opportunity to diagnose and treat tooth decay before it becomes a problem.

What Is the Process of Getting a Digital Dental X-Ray?

The technique for obtaining a digital dental x-ray is quite similar to that of a standard x-ray. Our highly skilled dental team will safely put a sensor into your mouth, capturing an image of your teeth or jaws. This digital sensor transmits data straight to a computer, allowing the images captured to be seen on a screen in the treatment room in real-time. Alternatively, images can be captured using a specialized scanner, or we can create a digital image by combining a sensor and a scanner. The precise approach employed is determined by the type of x-ray required.

The Benefits of Digital X-Rays

Once the digital image is displayed on the screen, we can make any necessary adjustments, such as enlarging or magnifying any parts that require close attention. This enables identifying any minor holes or other areas of concern much easier. We can diagnose any abnormalities more efficiently and quickly with digital radiography, eliminating the need to wait for an x-ray film to be created. It is also quite simple for us to show you these photographs on-screen and explain any issues and how to best treat them. If a second opinion is required, these digital images can be emailed to a dental specialist, which is far faster and more efficient than mailing traditional x-ray films. Another advantage of digital x-rays is that they are more environmentally friendly.
